The Journey
After the bountiful feast of Thanksgiving and an abundance of leftovers yesterday, I need a nice, lengthy walk today. At this point in my life, I value a relaxing walk more than ever. During Photo Walks and Photo Adventures, we do a lot of walking, but this walking is geared toward getting us to and from locations. Rarely, if ever, do they feel like a casual, healthy, good-for-the-soul walk. One recent morning in Scotland, we aimed to photograph dramatic scenes along a rock beach on Talisker Bay. Getting to the beach required a walk of about a half mile in each direction. Maybe more. It was a fantastic morning featuring nice light and great skies. Setting out from the parking location, we walked down a pleasant, well-traveled dirt lane lined with moss-covered stone walls and old trees, passed a farmhouse, and out onto a dirt road that took us through sprawling, lush pastures dotted with grazing sheep. Both sides of the road and lush pastures were lined with steep, equally lush hills. At the beach, we had ample opportunity to compose for the boulder-covered beach, pounding surf, and dramatic rock formations. I value my images from Talisker Bay, but it was the beautiful walk there that I reflect upon. Appreciate your destination, but embrace your journey.
