By the early 1700’s, after a somewhat tumultuous start in Massachusetts a century before, the Toothaker families I descend from had settled in the York, Brunswick, Harpswell, and Rangeley regions of Maine. As a boy, I daydreamed about how they got there, what work they did, and what hardships they faced. I imagine they were brave, hearty pioneers.

Notes from the Field: Mid Coast Maine Last weekend, for my third photography workshop of the year, a group joined me along mid-coast Maine for a photo adventure featuring stops at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, a few fishing harbors, local scenes, and the Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Steam Railroad.
